Congrats on the Tnooz mention, which is how I found out about you (Gliider CEO Jordan Stolper sent me the article).

I have been working on a travel planning startup too, although we did not make it (usual startup reasons). However, what we did do very well was create a data acquisition system and captured a whole lot of relevant travel places in the U.S. And not just the popular places in the popular destinations, but the popular local places in all the nooks and crannies in every state. Probably the best travel database of it’s kind around.

For instance, we collected over 9,000 attractions, and only places that had websites (our focus). Each website was visited, and after extracting some basic information, we categorized and sub-categorized each place so we could make searching for Museums/Children or Lodging/Dude Ranch really quick.

Where we ended our efforts was on two really neat features:

    1. What I would call “Social Bookmarking on a Map”, where instead of requiring users to “clip” a website, all they would have to do is bookmark it. Quicker for the user (more research in the same amount of time), and the information that showed up on the map would be very consistent (more reliable for the users). Part of the system would have been automated, and in fact that part would have had some interesting competitive advantages (as well as partnering potential).

    2. Our version of “Collections”, which would give users the ability to publish their own collection of places, but we would have also maintained curated versions of collections from popular media. Examples would include all the restaurants visited on the Food Network Diners, Drive-ins and Dives show, the places mentioned in Budget Travel magazine articles, and lists of places like World Heritage sites or major league ballparks (good revenue potential there). Lots of fresh content.

I think TripTrace has a lot going for it, but I also see some challenges if you’re only capturing “where I’ve been” type data. We’re looking for a new home for our data and technology, and I’d be glad to talk about what we could offer.

    Thanks

    Hi Folks,

Was very interested by your idea having noticed it featured on Thrillist. At the time I registered, but stupidly didn’t make a note of the password in my PW manager.

I’m reporting a dud ‘Forgotten Password’ clicky, as I’ve just tried it to rediscover mine.

If you can fix that glitch I can start and use TripTrace to see what it’s like.

    Thanks,

    Dave

** BTW, got my original enquiry via the ‘get.feedback@triptrace.com’ address returned by MailerDaemon.

Hi Im writing to enquire about advertising opportunities you may have on your site.

I have a number of international clients interested in purchasing a number of different advertisements (see below.):

    1) A simple link back to their site on your homepage.
    2) Around 15 words and a link back to their site on your homepage.
    3) A banner 125×125 that contains 1 link back to their site on your homepage.
    3) A banner 125×125 that contains 2 links back to their site on your homepage.
    3) A banner 125×125 that contains 3 links back to their site on your homepage.
    4) For you to add a article to your site that has been written specifically for your site around 500 words, this will contain 1 link back to an advertisers site.
    5) For you to add a page to your site that has been written specifically for your site around 500 words, this will contain 1 link to the advertisers site and will also require you to link to the article your homepage.

If you are selling any or all of the above please write back to me with the prices and I will add you to our backend system where advertisers can view your site.
This system is completely private and available by invite to Innovative SEO advertisers only.

If you could use the same number structure I used above when giving me your prices then that would be great also try to give prices as yearly, however we do offer monthly in the backend at the rate of 10% of the yearly.
If you only want to sell one form of the above advertising and not another then please let us know.

Please also note we can work with any geographic area!

    Kind Regards,
    David Winters
